Getting Started with Dial-Up Networking

  • Operating System: MacOS
  • Operating System Version: 8.1+
  • Application: Open Transport PPP
  • Application Version: 1.3
To set up OT/PPP, first configure the TCP/IP control panel, then the Modem control panel, and finally the PPP control panel.
Configuring the TCP/IP Control Panel
  1. From the Apple menu, point to Control Panels and choose TCP/IP.
  2. Set Connect via to PPP.
  3. In the name server address box type 207.182.224.5    207.182.224.10 and 209.123.109.183, each on a different line.
  4. In the Starting domain name text box, type vel.net
  5. From the File menu, choose Close.
  6. Click the Save button.
Configuring the Modem Control Panel
  1. From the Apple menu, point to Control Panels and choose Modem.
  2. Choose your modem from the Modem list. If you modem brand is not listed, consult your modem documentation to install it.
  3. From the File menu, choose Close.
  4. Click the Save button.
  5. Configuring the PPP Control Panel
    1. From the Apple menu, point to Control Panels and choose PPP.
    2. In the Name text box, type your Velocity username.
    3. In the Password text box, type your password.
    4. In the Number text box, type a local access number.
    5. Click the Connect button.
